After losing out to Danish side Brondby in their first pre-season friendly, Liverpool got back to winning ways today with a 2-1 win against League One side Preston North End.

Brendan Rodgers handed debuts to new signings Rickie Lambert and Emre Can as well as having fullback Jose Enrique available for the first time since November, but even the more senior players couldn’t find the breakthrough during a mixed opening period. It looked like we’d be going into the the break scoreless, but the home side snuck one in before the ref blew his whistle when Josh Brownhill tapped in a rebound mere seconds from the end of the first half.

Despite falling behind, some positive changes from Reds boss Brendan Rodgers saw returning loan star Suso curl in a beautiful effort from the edge of the area to restore parity. With the visitors on the front foot, they pressed North End relentlessly and their tenacity paid off when Kristoffer Peterson picked up a Jordan Ibe pass to build on his midweek strike against Brondby and pick himself up a memorable winner.

Next up for the Reds is a meeting with AS Roma at Boston’s Fenway Park as the Reds kick off their North American tour against the Italian side. Matches against Olympiacos, Manchester City and AC Milan follow before Rodgers brings his charges back the UK as the inches closer.

With the defence that we have don’t expect miracles! We can expect goals BUT at the wrong end….
