Dani Alves Interests Premier League Clubs

Really? Dani?

We’ve spent quite a bit of time talking about Liverpool moving in the coming weeks for one ex-Barcelona player and now the Reds are being linked to a soon to be ex-Barcelona player with rumours circulating that they’ll move for fullback Dani Alves in January.

With his contract set to expire at the Nou Camp next summer, the Brazilian defender is free to talk to potential suitors when the transfer window re-opens briefly this winter. Although he’s expected to see out the remainder of his contract with the Catalan giants, Alves will be able to enter a pre-contract agreement six months before his spell at Barcelona is set to end — something that Spanish media outlet Diario Sport says has piqued the interest of a number of Premier League clubs.

Along with Liverpool, fierce rivals Manchester United are also apparently keen on securing the experienced fullback’s services. With the player set to leave on a Bosman, the La Liga outfit has absolutely no bargaining power when it comes to his final destination, so it’s entirely up to the player where he wants to ply his trade next year.

With Glen Johnson looking likely to leave Anfield when his contract expires, Alves could be a short term option in the same vein as their capture of Kolo Toure last summer. Javier Manquillo, currently on a two year loan from Atletico Madrid, is being touted as Johnson’s long term successor on Merseyside, but having a player like Alves in the squad could definitely bode well for the Liverpool set-up with his vast experience a major asset in such a young squad.

Which, of course, is all dependant on whether or not this story is pure fiction…
