Jordan Henderson Rues Reds Finishing

Not good enough

In a display reminiscent of the scoreless draw with West Bromwich Albion at the weekend, yesterday’s disappointing loss to Hull City has for the most part signalled the end of Liverpool’s charge for the Champions League with their poor finishing and inability to capitalize on their possession the key to their demise.

“It was very disappointing because we set high expectations and we expect to win coming here. We knew Hull would make it difficult,” conceded stand-in skipper Jordan Henderson following the final whistle. “They’re fighting for their lives down there and they did make it difficult. It was very similar to the West Brom game, where they were sitting in and making it hard to break through. Unfortunately, we couldn’t break through. We had a couple of good chances to go ahead or get back in the game and we couldn’t take them.”

The Reds stung the palms of Tigers ‘keeper Steve Harper on more than one occasion, but quite often the quality in their attempts was sorely lacking — something that shows just how bad they miss having a recognized goal-scorer in the starting eleven week in and week out.

“We were creating chances, we had a lot of the ball and a lot of possession. Getting to the final third, we got into some really good areas and didn’t finish, so we need to be much more clinical in that area,” he continued. “If we do that, then we’ll be killing teams off, really. We’ve just got to keep going and hopefully the ball will go in the back of the net soon.”
