Liverpool Prepare New £25mil Bid for Disgruntled Christian Benteke
Liverpool’s summer spending isn’t set to stop anytime soon with the Reds reportedly ready to splash even more of their cash on want-away Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.
Hot on the heels of having a bid of up to £12.5mil accepted for Southampton fullback Nathaniel Clyne and securing the services of Hoffenheim attacker Roberto Firmino for a fee hovering around £29mil, the Anfield outfit are rumoured to be back in for the big Belgian after having their initial offer rejected by the FA Cup runners-up.
Rumour has it that the Anfield outfit had previously had a bid of £22mil turned away by the Villa hierarchy with the club holding out for the full £32.5mil release clause built into his contract — and that’s despite the fact that Benteke wants out of the Midlands and will not be extending his contract beyond the 24-months that are remaining on it.
The 24-year old is expected to return to Birmingham next week when his holidays are over and stress his desire to leave the club and Liverpool are expected to try to capitalize on his wandering eyes with a bid of £25mil plus the kind of add-ons that could see the price rise even higher in the coming years. Say what you want about the big man, but he loves to score goals and he’s proved that he can do just that, bagging 49-strikes in 99-appearances for the Villains.
