Liverpool Prepare New £25mil Bid for Disgruntled Christian Benteke

Liverpool’s summer spending isn’t set to stop anytime soon with the Reds reportedly ready to splash even more of their cash on want-away Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.

Hot on the heels of having a bid of up to £12.5mil accepted for Southampton fullback Nathaniel Clyne and securing the services of Hoffenheim attacker Roberto Firmino for a fee hovering around £29mil, the Anfield outfit are rumoured to be back in for the big Belgian after having their initial offer rejected by the FA Cup runners-up.

Rumour has it that the Anfield outfit had previously had a bid of £22mil turned away by the Villa hierarchy with the club holding out for the full £32.5mil release clause built into his contract — and that’s despite the fact that Benteke wants out of the Midlands and will not be extending his contract beyond the 24-months that are remaining on it.

The 24-year old is expected to return to Birmingham next week when his holidays are over and stress his desire to leave the club and Liverpool are expected to try to capitalize on his wandering eyes with a bid of £25mil plus the kind of add-ons that could see the price rise even higher in the coming years. Say what you want about the big man, but he loves to score goals and he’s proved that he can do just that, bagging 49-strikes in 99-appearances for the Villains.

More on this later…

Either they meet the valuation or they offer us £25 million plus a player worth £10 million in Sherwoods eyes, not Mr. Blobfish’s eyes.

Villa want Lambert. At Southampton he did very well.

No disrespect to Benteke, however when Rogers took over at Anfield, he immediately got shut of Carroll, deeming him surplus to requirements and Liverpool don’t really play using a target man, so why now revert back to Benteke. I also think the money put him is over the top and you can’t blame a wonderful manager protecting what he has in sherwood, I believe he’s what Aston Villa have needed for a long time, it’s bacca for me, roll on the new saeson!!

Still not sure why Liverpool seem to want Benteke so badly. We just bought another player who likes dribbling and generally keep the ball on the ground, it’s completely contrary to any possibility of a change in style. I’m going to continue to believe that this is just a smokescreen put up by the club to distract from real targets. As a Liverpool fan it’s my right to engage in fantasy.

We bid for him under the previous manager, there is no reason to believe the interest remains. He isn’t exactly worth anything significant to be used as a makeweight anyhow given his age and the nondescript season he just had.

I’ll take Lallana or a decent defender. No one wants Lambert.

I agree – we do not need another target man or injury prone striker. We already have Sturridge who delivers sufficient injury time for the whole team. Our best recent success was with a seriously mobile, tenacious forward who could play every game. Sounds like Bacca for me as well as his sustained fitness record, mobility and scoring record over time wins hands down.

I know what your getting at but I think Benteke has a little more in his locker than Carroll…that said I do worry that he won’t fit into our play :-S
