Refreshed Liverpool Aiming to Climb Back on Top
After disappointing spectacularly last season, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been given a new lease on life at Anfield. With seven new players in the door thus far and a reshuffled back-room staff, the Reds manager will be expected to hit the ground running. Considering their difficult start to the season, it’ll be no easy task — something that a check on the latest odds online with betfair will almost certainly back up. The Northern Irishman won’t be the only one feeling the pressure though with newly instated captain Jordan Henderson set to play a huge role in what will be an important season for Liverpool.
“We’ve obviously talked about the problems that we had last season. We are working on it in pre-season and obviously try different things but it’s been freshened up as well with the new staff and some new players,” he told the official website. “I think that’s really freshened us up and like I say everything is looking positive so far, but we’ve got to keep going, keep working hard and pushing ourselves to the limits then come the first game of the season we will be raring to go.”
Despite letting Raheem Sterling join Premier League rivals Manchester City for a whopping £49mil, the Reds have invested that money wisely, addressing a number of the short-comings that contributed to their sixth place finish last year. With pre-season preparations on-going, Henderson is optimistic ahead of the new campaign with some silverware and a return to the Champions League on his agenda.
“I think definitely winning something [is key], winning a trophy,” explained the skipper, before outlining his goals for his first season with the armband. “It would be big for the players, it would be big for the club and obviously for the fans, I think that’s a big aim for us this season. Also getting back in the top four and the Champions League,” he continued. “This football club deserves to be playing in the Champions League every year so that will be a big objective, and then once you are in and around that top four you never know what can happen. We’ll be pushing on from there, but like I say it is early days and we’ve got to take each game as it comes and hopefully we can start the season off well and then build from that.”
