Liverpool Set to Embark on the Most Important Season EVER!

My colleague Steven McMillian wrote a brilliant piece about the importance of this season in which he stated that this season like every other season is just as important as the seasons that preceded it. Basically, the war cry was “we are Liverpool and we demand more than most other clubs EVERY YEAR!” Now, I am not one to normally make irrational remarks in my day to day life, except of course when it comes to Liverpool FC. I expect irrational, I expect the unexpected and I damn well expect us to win the league EVERY YEAR!

You may call me the product of one too many head injuries, but, I do not care. I expect the best when it comes to Liverpool.

Preseason has been able to wash away the stain of last season to a certain extent, and we have had a stellar transfer window with the additions of Milner, Ings, Firmino, Clyne, Benteke and the unexpected diamond in the rough known as Joe Gomez. Throw in a backup keeper that may actually be useful as a backup keeper and the arrival of Origi after a season long loan and Liverpool have done remarkably well to go into this upcoming season with a squad that looks remarkably well suited to not only the Premier League, but also the various Cup Competitions.

Silverware as always should be the goal and given the strength of our squad, in particular where it matters most, I do not think I am completely deluded when I say, we should be winning a trophy this season. We have goals everywhere, we have actual midfielders that will control the center of the park better than anything we have seen in almost 10 years. We have a Right back that actually does things expected of a Right back and in Gomez, we have found a crucial plug and play versatile defender that can seemingly fill in at any one of the back 4 positions. Moreno, should get his chance at Left back soon enough and as a fan of his, I am looking forward to watching him do his thing this season, after an up and down season last time around.

No one is arguing that all the work in the squad is done and dusted, but we are extremely well placed going into this season with the personnel at our disposal. Things can always be better, but they are plenty good as is and if we win a trophy and take home the Premier League Crown, then I reckon we will all be extremely happy.

I am a fan of Benteke and I think he will do remarkably well for Liverpool this season. Firmino is the player we needed last year after Sanchez said no to joining Liverpool and he’s all ours now and given freedom in attack, I think he will take up the mantle of Liverpool’s best player extremely soon, which is saying a lot because I expect even better things from Coutinho. Imagine for a second what our team looks like where Coutinho is not the best player we have, imagine where we are going to end up with a healthy Sturridge that is no longer the best striker we have at the club. Imagine a midfield that can not fit in the likes of Can, Lucas, Allen because Henderson and Milner are just completely bossing the opposition.

All that imagining is about to come to fruition in a little over 24 hours and I can not wait to see it all unfold.

Lovren starting worries me and I do not particularly want to have to go through all that again but Rodgers is hellbent on going through that all again, so we have to indulge this experiment a little more, but with attacking options at our disposal all over the park, including at the fullback positions, we should see a return to the 13/14 blow the opposition out of the water territory.

It will be a long season and there will be plenty of ups and hopefully only a few minor downs, but I for one am really excited and optimistic and just plain eager to see it all unfold.

The future is bright and until I see evidence to the contrary I’m going to stick to us just winning the league thank you very much.

    Well played, sir.

I think you’ve got it right though – we’ve made the right additions to the squad and that will bring confidence from the stands and hopefully from the players as well.

I just hope they can gel fast enough to prevent us from starting the season slowly. A few defeats and I’m afraid heads are going to drop. We saw what that did at the tail end of last year…

15 out of 15! We will be top of the league with everyone chasing us after 5 games.

I am hoping that the world gives me this because, I have been a really really good citizen of late and it would be nice to be get what you want every once in a while.

Yep. Because expecting the best is a trait that people on crack all have in common.

Also, it may not seem like it, but it was a tongue in cheek comment in regards to my lofty ambitions for this season.

The best part about it though, if it comes to fruition we all win!
