Fabio Borini “One of Many” Players Fiorentina is Considering

Despite media reports declaring Liverpool striker Fabio Borini’s move to Serie A side Fiorentina a done deal, the Viola have yet to table an official bid for the 24-year old and have hinted that the ex-Roma man is actually only one of the different options they’re considering after allowing veteran attacker Mario Gomez to join Turkish outfit Besiktas on a season long loan.

With two years left on his contract, the Reds are looking to recoup somewhere in the region of £8mil of the £10.5mil they paid AS Roma for his services back in the summer of 2012 when the Italian became Reds boss Brendan Rodgers first signing of his Anfield reign. Now, the Northern Irishman is looking to get shot of him as he continues a complete overhaul of a squad that was only able to manage a sixth place finish last year.

“We’re conducting negotiations with Dnipro. There are several negotiations in progress, all with the consultation of coach (Paulo) Sousa,” confirmed Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade when asked about a move for FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk hit-man Nikola Kalinic, but he was cagey when the subject moved on to the want-away Liverpool man. “Fabio Borini? He’s one of many possible solutions,” he said without making any sort of commitment. “The priority is to buy a striker.”

This, of course, sounds like bad news for both Borini and the Reds. After turning down moves to both Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers last summer, the Italian spent an unproductive season at Anfield, scoring only a single goal in his twelve Premier League appearances. With just under three-weeks left in the transfer window, time is running out for the striker to make a move, and though talks have taken place between the two sides, they don’t seem to be progressing quite fast enough — and now we know why.
