Jose Enrique Eyeing Liverpool Stay Despite Being Snubbed by Brendan Rodgers

After being left off the clubs pre-season tour and reportedly told to train alone, Liverpool fullback Jose Enrique’s time at Anfield looks to be up with the Reds trying to get shot of the Spaniard before the transfer window closes at the end of the month. While the club is doing what they can to shuffle him on, the 29-year old has confirmed that he’d be willing to stay and fight for his place.

“I’m in a difficult position. The club have alienated Balotelli, Borini and me,” said the Spaniard, quickly going on the offensive. “I have a year left on my contract and I imagine the club will want to sell, but I still want to stay and fight as I always have,” he continued, before adding that he’d be open to a new challenge, “But if a good offer came (elsewhere) with more years of contract and more chance to play, I’d look at it.”

Despite reports linking the 29-year old with an imminent loan move to West Bromwich Albion, nothing has been finalized as of yet, and though he’s already said he’s open to offers should they come, the Spaniard isn’t about to give up hope of forcing his way back into the starting eleven.

“I will not give up. I know from experience that football changes from day to night. I feel fine after two years with knee discomfort. Plus in the squad here we only have one pure left-back (Alberto Moreno) and I know that if I stay I’ll play. I want to prove that some are wrong,” enthused Enrique. “What I think is that I will not play in a team better than this. Liverpool are a match for Manchester United. It is true we haven’t won the league for many years, but we must not forget that we have won five European Cups,” enthused the fullback before confirming that he’d received an offer to return to his native Spain, but turned it down. “I had a very good option to return to Spain, but is complicated because the economy is very different from what exists here.”

Why not try Enrique In the Lucas role? whatever else he can defend and still drag forwards where he wants them to go.
