Liverpool Ready to Splash Out on Alex Teixeira to Solve Goalscoring Woes
It appears there’s a doings transpiring at Anfield with Liverpool reportedly in talks with Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk over highly rated attacker Alex Teixeira with the Merseyside giants prepared to splash out a fee rumoured to be in the region of £24.5mil to secure the services of the 26-year old.
Out of the Champions League and currently playing in the Florida Cup tournament, a Reds delegation has apparently flown to Orlando to advance talks over the Brazilian hit-man who has a staggering 26-goals in as many appearances for the Ukrainian Premier League outfit. Liverpool, who have struggled to find the net this term, are prepared to pay a premium to bring Teixeira to Anfield this month rather than wait until the summer — which sounds like a smart move if Miners manager Mircea Lucescu has his valuations correct.
“Alex is now worth more than €40m (£29m),” said the Romanian manager last month. “I think at the end of the season, were he to continue his performance, his value is €50m (£36.3m),” he continued before lamenting the fact that players from the Ukraine don’t attract as much money as those already plying their trade in England, France or Spain. “If he were playing in a more competitive league, his transfer would be at the same level as that of Di Maria (£60m).”
Teixeira has been attracting interest from a number of big clubs with Chelsea also thought to be keen on securing his services. While the Brazilian is thought to favour a move to London, a switch to Liverpool and a chance to work with Jurgen Klopp — a manager that would suit the all action attacker’s brand of football — could be very temping for the 26-year old. A number of media outlets are reporting that he could very well be denied a work permit as he remains uncapped for the Brazilian national team, but they are confident that he would be granted one under appeal.
He’s no Shane Long, but he’ll do…
