Report – Signing £62million star could be Liverpool’s next triumph
Liverpool, as European Champions, should be able to attract the best of players in the world and a top class star is linked with the Anfield club.
According to Bild, on Saturday, Klopp won the biggest trophy of his career and the next trophy could soon follow in the form of a top signing.
New Deal – Liverpool ready to agree terms worth £40million with Klopp
The renowned German outlet have stated that signing Dutch international Matthijs de Ligt could be Klopp’s next triumph.
Stats and price tag:
The 19-year-old defender is one of the hottest properties in the transfer market right now. As per recent reports (Sport), the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United are battling to lure the Eredivisie star, who is valued at 70 million euros (£62million).
The teenage starlet won the Johan Cruyff Trophy in 2018 and this term, he captained the Ajax side that won the league and cup double in the Netherlands.
The 6 ft 2 center half not only proved his worth in the defensive third but also contributed in the attack. In all competitions, he directly contributed in 11 goals (7 goals and 4 assists) for the Dutch giants (Transfermarkt).
He scored the decisive goal to knock Italian champions Juventus out of the Champions League and also found the net vs Spurs in the second leg of the semi final. However, the PL club made an astonishing comeback to qualify for the final.
Liverpool’s central defense:
Liverpool broke their transfer record to sign Virgil van Dijk for a fee of £75million (The Guardian) back in January 2018.
The Reds had the best defensive record in the recently concluded PL campaign and the Dutch international deservedly won the PFA Player of the Year award. More importantly, he helped us win the club’s sixth European Cup and was awarded the MOTM prize in the final.
At the start of the season, Klopp mainly preferred Gomez to partner Van Dijk in the central defense. However, injury ruined Gomez’s season and in his absence, Matip established his position in the starting XI.
We also have Dejan Lovren, but the Croatian international was mainly a bench warmer, who started 11 times in the Premier League and only twice in the Champions League. So, we do have quality and depth in the central defense.
For Netherlands, Van Dijk and De Ligt start in the central defense. In your opinion, should Klopp move to unite the duo at Anfield?
