Report – Liverpool interested in signing £90million attacker next summer – Face competition
Liverpool were very much inactive in the summer transfer window as far as the first team signings are concerned.
The Reds lured two youngsters in the form of Elliott and Van den Berg and signed an experienced shot stopper in the form of Spanish international Adrian.
News – Liverpool’s £120,000-a-week star ruled out of the game vs Arsenal
According to Sport1.de, the Merseysiders are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen’s highly rated attacker, Kai Havertz, in the next summer’s transfer window.
The renowned German news source have revealed that apart from Liverpool, top European clubs like Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are also looking to hire the services of the German international.
Stats, playing position and price tag:
Havertz has played in multiple attacking positions but naturally, he is a central attacking midfielder.
In the last campaign, the youngster was in sensational form for the Bundesliga club. He featured in 34 league games and directly contributed in 21 goals (17 goals and 4 assists) to help Leverkusen qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
On the other hand, in the Europa League, he featured in 6 games and directly contributed in as many goals (3 goals and 3 assists). This season, he has already netted 2 goals in as many appearances.
Havertz’ top form earned him his first senior cap for Germany back in September 2018 and so far, he has made three appearances for the four-time World Cup winners.
The 20-year-old’s current contract with the German club will expire in 2022 and as per Sport1.de, his market value is expected to be around 100 million euros (£90million).
Scenario at Liverpool:
At Anfield, Klopp has got three top quality attacking players in the form of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
Also, the German manager has got ample quality and depth in the midfield with versatile players like Milner, Lallana, Wijnaldum, Fabinho, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Keita and captain Henderson around.
However, it must be noted that the European Champions do lack a natural/quality central attacking midfielder. They had one in the form of Philippe Coutinho but the Brazilian international was sold in the winter transfer window of 2018 and as yet, Liverpool have not replaced him.
We did extremely well without Coutinho but the club must continue to improve and therefore a replacement should be lured sooner rather than later to have more options up front apart from our world class trio.
Have your say – Should Liverpool splash the cash to sign Kai Havertz?
