Liverpool want signing of £25million player who can leave in January – Journalist
Liverpool have been linked with Norwegian international Sander Berge for quite some time and the latest remarks made by an Italian journalist are intriguing.
RTBF journalist, Pascal Scime, recently told the official radio station of Napoli that Liverpool want signing of the Genk midfielder, who can leave in January. The journalist said (CalcioNapoli24):
“Liverpool want him. In January he can go. First offer of €15m was refused. Napoli? He is a player who would fit more in the Premier League than in Serie A”
Opinion – Liverpool’s biggest concern in Champions League KO stages
From his statement, it is not clear whether the offer was made by the European Champions or by the struggling Italian club, who sacked manager Carlo Ancelotti after last night’s victory vs Genk in the Champions League.
The Reds first showed interest in the 21-year-old midfielder after he featured against Klopp’s men in the Champions League. As per The Daily Mail, the midfielder is valued at £25million.
Last month, RAI Sport journalist, Ciro Venerato, talked about Berge and told CalcioNapoli24:
“Berge? If Napoli goes for a player stalked by Liverpool, they come second. It is well known that there are major clubs in the world. They like Berge, but I don’t know if he will come.”
Sander Berge is naturally a defensive midfielder, who can also play in the creative central midfield role. This season, so far, he has netted 3 goals in 18 league appearances for the Belgian club. He has already played 20 times for the senior national side (Transfermarkt).
At Anfield, Liverpool’s first choice holding midfield star is Fabinho, who has arguably been the best DM in the world this season but unfortunately, the Brazilian suffered an injury last month that will keep him out of action for some time.
In his absence, the likes of Henderson and Wijnaldum have played in the DM role and done pretty well. Have your say, do Liverpool need to sign a defensive midfielder in January? Should they move to lure Sander Berge?
