There’s Been Borders and There’ll Be Boundaries

Two times unlucky...
Had this been the first match of the season, it wouldn’t have mattered. Having Arsenal end your unbeaten home streak with an injury time goal from a blazing hot Robin van Persie would hardly register on the radar. The penalty miss, hitting the woodwork and Martin Kelly spooning a sitter would be chalked up to nothing. A bad day on the park. Had it been one month in, you’d be ruing the dropped points. In November if you’re creating, but not converting, you know there’s a problem. Six months, and our dominance could have amounted to so much more. By the time it’s March and your season has been built on days like today, you start to give up.

It’s not a knee jerk reaction if you never expected to win in the first place. A marathon Carling Cup final coupled with a midweek international friendly and a number of key players picking up injuries was always going to make this one harder than it needed to be. Then again, we’ve a bit of a history of doing just that, only with one distinct difference. We used to win them, didn’t we? This race for 4th place and the final Champions League spot has become a bit of a farce as we now sit 10 points adrift of Arsenal who are cementing themselves in for the long haul.

People set unrealistic goals all the time. On some unconscious level we know what we’re aiming for is unattainable, yet setting a more easily available target lacks any sense of flair or panache. At the beginning of the campaign, and up until today, we were shooting for Champions League qualification. Fourth place in the league and a route back to the big stage. Was it possible from the outset? Sure, it was. As hope and positivity take hold, we believe we can do more while there was truly only a outside possibility we were going to make it.

With the new signings taking longer than expected to bed in and the feeling of transition around the club as we settled into our first full season under the ownership of FSG and the management of Kenny Dalglish. Champions League football may seemed so easily attained, when it was really just another pipe dream; but were we going to aim any lower?

Instead, should we of just hoped all the players had a good time? Not to be relegated? As long as we finish above West Brom we’ll be alright? Without a clear signal of intent of the managements desire to bring us back to where we belong, the club falls short of fulfilling the aspirations of the players and the fans. No one wants to hear this is another year of building; of learning and adapting. We want success and we want it now. Still, this is reality. What we want or think we should be able to accomplish doesn’t always apply.

Trust in Kenny.

Can’t find up from down or tell black from white, but doesn't care cause it’s all Red to him. When he's not pissing and moaning about all things Liverpool, he’s chatting nonsense with his multiple personalities — or his “entourage” as he likes to call them.

I agreed with a lot of what you said, apart from the Trust in Kenny. Why? If we OFTEN played ‘good’ football, you could blame the finishing. If we played crap, like we have a lot since Evans left, but still scored and won NOT DREW at home, we could trust and hope that Kenny sorted the attractiveness out over time. But it isnt one thing. Its LOTS. When we play well, we hardly EVER win. When we play crap, we usually get lucky, NOT clinical. I havent watched too many games this season, its too frustrating, but the ones i have watched have proved so many things. If Carroll cant score, noone steps up. Downing had a ‘good’ game last week supposedly, and this week? The only player with any credit is Bellamy. Gerrard has lost all belief in ever winning the league. You can see it in his body language, his energy and his facial expressions. The others all believe the hype kenny is feeding them, they all thing theyre ten times better than they are, and hence dont do the BASICS right so often. Apart from Bellamy and Enrique, every single new player needs a serious talking to. Kenny cant do that though, he wouldnt have anyone left with any morale. Downing wouldnt get into any other side in the top of the table, Adam is making me think we’d be better off with a kid who doesnt think he can pass, but still manages to do the very basics right, Henderson is an utter joke on the right wing, and Carroll is less useful than a freaking TREE upfront. Our History is being absolutely destroyed by this team. Our club now has about as much identity as a preschool, and im so disgusted. I used to walk around with pride as an LFC fan, and now? Now we are left with more excuse making than a white south african. From the front to back, Carroll (scoring, control, speed, intelligence) Suarez (cheating, stupidity, finishing) Downing (Skill, crossing, finishing, intelligence, crossing) Gerrard (energy, inspiration, goals, lack of faith, injuries) Adam (speed, finishing, passing, crossing, corners, intelligence, assists, leadership) Henderson (he does NOTHING right. NOTHING) Kuyt (age, skill, goals, speed, control) Lucas (injured. this has hurt us more than we know, and we didnt have ANY backup for him) Spearing (a poor mans Joey Barton, and thats saying something) Johnson (team play, intelligence, positioning) Agger (ALWAYS INJURED) Skrtel (composure). All these players could be ‘carried’ through tough times IF the rest of the team was of better quality. But they arent. We often have two or three players that are just…..carried through a game. Henderson hasnt had a good game in months. Our expectations of Carroll and Downing have lowered so far, we are pleased if they just dont make arses of themselves. But even that rarely happens. My hope is that Henry is a smarter owner than Kenny is a manager, and moves Kenny back into role he was in before, hires Benitez back (or shit, id take AvB at this point) buys ONE decent player (we missed out on Mata, Van De Vaart, Smalling, and numerous others… Hazard is still there and if they have any skill whatsoever they need to get some GOOD players) and then adds in some of the kids. Next season, Adam, Henderson and Carroll should all be subs. Carra shouldnt play again for our first team, and Downing should be sold. This team disgusts me, and i dont know how those who pay for tickets regularly can stomach being there and watchin such ineptitude week in week out. A carling Cup is NOT success, especially when we won ON PENALTIES against a CHAMPIONSHIP team. Utter farce, i wish i could tell them myself.

” I havent watched too many games this season,”
I kind of quit reading after that.

Kenny picks the team, we did well in term of chances created but on the team sheet most of the players have not scored goals regularly.

Bellamy who can score was left on the bench till the game was over.

Regardless of excuses are only goal was by an Arsenal player.

Wenger came with a plan which was to absorb Liverpool pressure and hope to get a goal on the break, they would of been happy with a draw at Anfield but took a win.

This is not the first time that a manager has outsmarted Dalglish this season. Give him till the end of the season and barring and unbelievable winning streak, Dalglish needs to move on.

Bellamy doesn’t have the knees to play as often as we’d like him to. He just played 75′ for Wales on Wednesday.
