A result that should come as a surprise to no one

Stop me if you have already heard this one: Merseyside club dominates possession, but loses match after failing to capitalize on said possession. It is a tale that Liverpool supporters are growing tired of hearing. Call it bad luck, lack of confidence, or any other excuse you can think of; it keeps happening.

Crappiest way for a defender to be photographed

The Stadium of Light has not been kind to the Reds in the past and this encounter proved to be just as cruel. A strike from Frazier Campbell in the 56th minute bounced off the post, hit Reina in the head, bounced back against the post, and then fell to the feet of Nicklas Bendtner who subsequently scored. Despite having over 60% of the possession in both halves, the Red Men failed to create scoring opportunities.

The fans who only support the club when Steven Gerrard is hoisting a trophy will no doubt be calling for the head of Dalglish and most of the signings from the past summer. This was always going to be a season of rebuilding, so it should come as a shock to no one that the team continues to perform like a mid-table club. Despite what players and pundits might say, any hope of finishing 4th was dashed last week. We already have a Europa slot locked in thanks to the League Cup victory that also ended a 6-year trophy drought. Having already qualified for Europe, it really does not matter where we finish on the table.

Losing sucks and it is not good for the confidence of players or psyche of fans, but at this stage it is hardly the end of the world. The priority now must be the FA Cup. Then again, in order to lift another trophy, someone is going to have to put the ball in the back of the net. The squad has almost recovered from the Wembley hangover that really did a number on the players’ fitness. International friendlies did not help, nor did a match immediately after with Arsenal.

On Tuesday, at the Merseyside derby, players will have a chance to provide a better response to the lack of form they have shown. It will be a good warm up before Stoke City travels to Anfield on the following Sunday for the FA Cup Quarter-finals. Keep your chins up, boys and girls, it’s only a few months before the season ends and we cry all summer about having to watch the Euro instead of the Reds.

Last week we were unlucky, this week we were just very poor. Put this display next to the worst of the Hodgson era and there wouldn’t that much difference apart from £80M+ spent. We were lucky Sunderland had a poor day too.

All week we get top four is still within reach, and that the manager is so great with the players giving them confidence, and then they play poorly like this. Keep the mouths shut and do the business on the field. There is no teamwork or in the last third of the field.

Top four has gone, well gone, so time to give youth a chance (like last year) and see if any of them can do the business. If not now, when? We can’t afford to wait till we’re playing well to give them a chance.

If nothing else they’ll look like they want to actually play for Liverpool.

Dont score goals dont win games its simple. All season weve been crying out for Suarez or Carrol to do this biz, have they? No they havent, but neither have the other players.I dont think we are to far away from EPL winners we need quality players which means quality money. I am not writing about British players because there is far better going around at less the price.

Mate Liverpool are full of average , over rated players and a few that are past it, it’s your whole squad that’s no good, you need a massive over haul. And don’t get me started on dalglish , he’s a very very poor manager, you need to take your rose tinted glasses off and see him for what he is….RUBBISH!
I can’t believe he was allowed to spend all that money on the crap he brought in, I mean the only one anywhere near there value rue value was Suarez but he cant hit a barn door, so it’s fair to say he’s a flop, I’d like to hear your view on that, all the pundits saying he’s world class need there head testing, ronaldo, messi, van persie are world class, Suarez is just good on his day, which isn’t very often, I mean he’s a 1 in 5 striker ( Emily Heskey stats )! Carroll is worth £7- £10m depending what mugs you can find with cash on the hip, downing £5-£8m, Henderson £5-£8m, Suarez £15-£20m! Carragher is well past it and Gerard should retire on a high, he’s injury prone and not as effective as he once was. All in all your team is fucked

Im sick of hearing from these ‘hero’ supporters who keep bashing the other section of reds fans, we all buy shirts/ tickets other memorabilia & as a result every single fan has a right to voice their opinion however it may be seen in anyone else’s eyes. I for one am sick & tired of our excuses – WE HAVE NOT BEEN GOOD ENOUGH! i dont care what anyone else says, charlie adam has been awful, henderson not much better but being played out of position, downing has been very lacklustre & carroll dropped when he looked to be gaining momentum – personally however much of a legend kk is i think we need to be looking for a new long term manager at the end of the season, perhaps he is TOO untouchable!
We have had no european distraction this year & 2 of our rivals for the coveted fourth spot (arsenal & chelsea) have had poor seasons by their standards yet we are miles off the pace & in serious danger of being overtaken by the blue half of merseyside, fulham & even west brom (what a kick in the teeth if roy finishes above us!), despite the factors in our favour we are just 1 point better off than last year – ITS NOT GOOD ENOUGH PEOPLE – TRANSITION OR NOT!! newcastle have alot of new signings & arsenal have a shed load of players missing so what is our excuse really? Yes we have a cup but is that really going to tempt the sort of calibre players being banded about – i seriously doubt it! We are LIVERPOOL FC we shouldnt be struggling to finish in the top 6 & happy about a league cup win (just!).
I really am worried about my beloved reds as im not sure we’re going to see the owners spend the sort of cash needed to recruit the quality or quantity to see us challenging anywhere near the top in the near future especially if kenny continues to buy overrated overpriced british cr@p!!
P.S. (play jonjo & give blackpool adam back!!)

I agreed with your reply to the article Rich, spot on these players are crap
and not good enough for liverpool fc….then you went and spoilt it by claiming
shelvey was the answer to the problem, just another crap player!

Actually I am sick of the players rotation, poor tactics and late substitution.

Why we are not playing players who are not playing well is beyond my comprehension.

We have to admit while KD is a good man manager and team builder, he is poor in tactics and his timing of substitution is bad.

    @ jim

i never said jonjo was the answer, it was a sarcastic dig seeing as blackpool want to take him back on loan, but now you mention it – yes, i would rather see shelvey given a run of games between now & the end of the season instead of adam to see whether he can cut it or not, he certainly couldnt be any worse!!

This article is utter tosh and disrespecting fans who may be critical of the manager or new signings is absolutely pathetic. This season we were promised a push for fourth place, not we’ll win a cup to secure a Europa League place then it doesn’t matter where we come in the league!! You’re critical of fans who may want more, yet surely true Liverpool fans (or fans of any club) want as high a league place as possible and when promised the team will try for fourth, should expect the team to try for fourth. If the team are happy to come anywhere in the league then why do the players keep coming out and saying we can still get fourth??

I agree… this article should be in the bin. Full of excuses, patronizing, aggressive against critical fans. But the bit that takes the cake is when he says it doesn’t matter where we finish in the table because we’re already in the Europa(!) League. If there’s one thing I learned as a Liverpool supporter through those oh so many years is to be proud of my club and respect its dignity. I don’t think you honored our tradition with that sentence, mate. Maybe you’ll think again if we finish midtable, or maybe you think that’s where we deserve to be, cause you don’t care. As long as we have the Carling Cup, everything’s cool.
