Anfield has seen some of the most unbelievable comebacks in the history of the club and to be honest, Liverpool overcoming a three goal deficit against Barca is perhaps the biggest of them all.
The Catalan giants were the strongest on paper going into the first leg of the semi final clash vs Liverpool. The Reds dominated possession, missed crucial chances at the Nou Camp and were eventually punished by Barca, who won the contest 3-0.
However, in the second leg, the Merseysiders were unstoppable. They not only scored four goals against the Spanish giants but also made them look like an average team.

After the heavy loss, it was evident that the Barcelona players were hurt but the main issue is that they have not got over the defeat as yet.
Ahead of Barca’s Copa del Rey Final vs Valencia, Lionel Messi spent most of the time reflecting on the game against Liverpool and how the defeat adversely influenced the team.
The Argentine superstar claimed (Youtube):
“We received a very hard blow in Liverpool, it was difficult to get up and we felt still hurt in the following games, it was a hard blow, really.”
Messi did manage to score a goal in the Copa final but Los Che eventually won the contest 2-1 to complete Barca’s misery. After losing, their star central defender, Gerard Pique, basically blamed Liverpool (in a way) for the result.
Barca were after the treble but have now ended up with just the La Liga title and Pique believes that the club would have won the treble if they had defeated Liverpool. The former Man Utd man claimed (Liverpool Echo):
“I believe that if we had gotten through at Liverpool, we would have won the treble, That is my feeling.
“We would have come here [to the Copa del Rey final] with a different mood, and I’m convinced we would have won the Champions League final, but that is football. We are really, really hurting.”
For Barcelona, the season is finally over but for Liverpool, the job is still not done as they need one more victory to lift the Champions League trophy again.
