Suarez Winning Fitness Battle According to Family

Will he be ready in time?

When it comes to Luis Suarez, everyone has an opinion. Although he was more or less ruled out of the opening match of the World Cup next month by a reliable Uruguayan newspaper, the striker’s brother Diego, who he’s currently staying with, says he should be fit in time to face England.

The much anticipated match-up, where the Reds talismanic attacker will come up against no less than five of his Liverpool teammates, looked to be in doubt with a grim picture being painted of his recovery time after knee surgery, but if you ask Diego — and really, why wouldn’t you? — it’s sounding like we may see the 31-goal man go head to head with the Three Lions after-all.

“I think he’ll be fit. He’s fine, he’s recovering well and trying to get better as quick as possible,” explained the 21-year old. “He’s determined to get fit and has all the desire and all the support he needs. I think he feels confident that he will make it.”

Despite the injury, Suarez has been named in Oscar Tabarez’s 23-man squad for the final and, if all goes well, he won’t be missing for too long — something that delights his uncle Sergio. “When I called him after the surgery, feeling upset for him, he just said: ‘Don’t worry uncle, I’ll be able to play'” he said of his determined nephew. “And if Luis says he is going to do something, it will happen. He has incredible determination and belief.”
