Swansea City Chairman Says No Official Liverpool Approach for Bony

With Liverpool’s sale of star striker Luis Suarez to Barcelona done and dusted, there’s been no time wasted looking for a replacement for the mercurial Uruguayan and the most likely replacement — this week anyways — is looking like Swansea City hit-man Wilfried Bony.
If that’s actually the case, no one has told Hew Jenkins. “I have had no talks with Liverpool until now, and I would be very surprised if a club like Liverpool are doing any kind of negotiations with a player or player’s agent behind our back”, the Jacks chairman told the South Wales Evening Post. “I would have thought somebody from Liverpool would have been in touch if they are really interested in Wilfried. There’s a way of doing things.”
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is no stranger to the Welsh outfit having steered them to promotion to the Premier League and helped them make a splash in their first season in the top flight before making the move to Merseyside. In the same vein, he’s also no stranger to falling afoul of Jenkins with his pursuit of midfielder Joe Allen during his first season at Anfield riling up the chairman.
Whether or not he’s forgiven and forgotten remains to be seen, but the Swans chairman is keen to do things in the right way and hopes Liverpool feels the same. “I know things are different in this day and age, but the usual rule of thumb is that when you are trying to complete a transfer, you deal with a club first and then the player comes after that” continued Jenkins. “That’s the nature of the system.”
