Liverpool Confirm Alberto Moreno Fee (For Real This Time)

Finally.

Following a summer long chase for Sevilla fullback Alberto Moreno, Liverpool have finally got their man and have confirmed on their official website that a fee has been agreed between the two sides.

“Liverpool can confirm they have reached an agreement with Sevilla for the transfer of Spain international full-back Alberto Moreno,” read a statement posted late yesterday evening following the withdrawal of the 22-year old from the Sevilla squad that lost 2-0 to Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup in Cardiff. “The Reds will proceed with the formalities of finalizing the deal for the 22-year-old over the coming days and will make no further announcement until it is complete.” After so many months of waiting, the Anfield outfit finally got their man — and for cheaper than anyone expected.

With an initial offer rumoured to be in the region of £16mil rejected by the La Liga side, the Andalusian’s were apparently holding out for a fee far closer to £20mil and weren’t about to budge on their valuation no matter what. Well, it appears they’ve decided to compromise significantly with most major media outlets reporting that the transfer will be worth £12mil + add-ons — a far cry from the bloated fee they were initially trying to hold us to ransom for.

Moreno is expected on Merseyside in the coming days to complete a medical and hash out the final hurdles ahead of this Sunday’s Premier League opener against Southampton. Following the announcement, Sevilla coach Unai Emery has congratulated the 22-year old on securing a big money move to England. “We will remember players like Alberto Moreno. It is true that it was in our minds but this has been in the offing for around a month and a half or two” he said in his post match address. There are teams interested in him and this has speeded it all up. We want to wish him the best.”

More on this as soon as we see pictures of him putting pen to paper…
