Brendan Rodgers Continues Striker Search

Keeping up the search

As time ticks down in the transfer window, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers isn’t about to give up in his efforts to bring in a top class striker to Anfield.

Following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona in a big money move last month, the Reds are looking a bit thin up top. With Fabio Borini expected to complete his move to Sunderland in the coming days, Liverpool will be left with only two senior strikers in Daniel Sturridge and Southampton transplant — and boyhood Liverpool fan — Rickie Lambert should the Northern Irishman be unable to bring in a third option. That, of course, isn’t the intention and Rodgers has been increasingly vocal in his desire to secure some more top class talent.

“The money is there – and we will look to improve at the top end of the field until the very end of the window” explained the Liverpool boss when pressed on his efforts to sign another striker. “It’s not easy to get a top level striker, no. But we have to keep looking. We certainly need something, because we haven’t brought in another striker so far, apart from Rickie Lambert.”

There’s been no shortage of rumours with moves for Monaco striker Radamel Falcao and free-agent Samuell Eto’o gaining traction in the last few days. Although he predictably gave no indicator on any particular target, he did hint that they’re prepared to go to the final day to bring someone in. “You just never know what will happen in that last week – the window will always throw up something” mused Rodgers. “We will persevere, and the boys are working hard behind the scenes to see what information we can get on the availability of players.”
