Liverpool Vice-Captain Hoping for Speedy Sturridge Recovery

Get well soon

Despite suffering one injury setback already during his ten week absence, the news that Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is set to miss another six weeks with a new thigh problem has come as a shock to both the club and Kopites everywhere.

The 24-year old, who had returned to full training with the club ahead of Sunday’s trip to Selhurst Park, will now be on the treatment table for the foreseeable future — something that has devastated him according to Liverpool vice-captain Jordan Henderson. “It is a big blow, not only for the team but for him as well” he told ESPN FC when asked about the striker. “He is devastated, at a really low point really because he was looking forward to getting back playing. He felt good so it is disappointing for us as a team and him personally.”

Sturridge aside, the Reds don’t have one striker on the book that has a Premier League goal to their name this season. With them languishing in the wrong half of the table and staring down elimination from the Champions League, that’s a troubling statistic to be staring at heading into December.

Although there won’t be much left to play for come the New Year if there isn’t a serious up-tick in their performances, Henderson has urged his teammates to be strong in the continued absence of their star striker. “We have to make sure as teammates we are strong for him because he is doing everything he can in the gym and on the training field to get back as quick as he can” he continued. “Hopefully he has a quick recovery, a speedy recovery and he comes back firing on all cylinders.”
