Raheem Sterling Hints That Liverpool Contract Extension is Close

A lot has changed since Reds boss Brendan Rodgers and young winger Raheem Sterling butted heads on TV documentary Being: Liverpool. The 19-year old is now one of the leading figures for not only the Anfield outfit, but the senior England team as well.
While that might sound like a whole lot of responsibility for a player that’s still so young, his manager is quick to point out that he’s no longer the same guy that had a pop at him in front of the cameras. “It is incredible to think that just two years later he is carrying all those hopes on his shoulders for country and club,” said Rodgers when asked about the new-found maturity of the youngster. “He is growing up and gaining experience all the time. This last period has been difficult for everyone but he has handled it really well. It is something I now expect from him because he has matured a lot.”
That maturity looks to have earned him a luicrative new contract at Anfield, and despite interest from the likes of reigning European champions Real Madrid, Sterling has dropped strong hints that he’s close to finally putting pen to paper and committing his long term future to the Merseyside club.
“The club has spoken to my representatives and hopefully something can be done really soon. Hopefully I can achieve the goals I want to achieve here at Liverpool in years to come” said the 19-year old during a tour of the clubs academy. “I am happy to be here for as long as possible, like the big names that are on that wall. I am just happy to play at this football club for many years to come.”
