Liverpool had the best defensive record in the recently concluded Premier League campaign, still, they need more depth in their back-line.
According to reports going on in the media, Manchester United have made an approach to lure Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon but The Express have revealed that the 19-year-old defender desires to agree a move to Liverpool. The UK outlet have claimed that the teenage starlet is a boyhood Liverpool fan and the London based club value him around £40million.
At Anfield, the central defense is fine with players like Van Dijk, Matip, Gomez and Lovren around.
Transfer Story – Liverpool chasing the signature of £45million star
However, Liverpool lack depth in the full-back positions. Robertson and Alexander-Arnold have been sensational for the Reds but Klopp has got no one who could adequately cover for them.
Spanish left back Moreno has been horrible at the back, his contract with the club will expire next month and we can expect him to leave.
On the other hand, right back Clyne was loaned out in the winter transfer window and Klopp used midfielders like Milner and Henderson to play in the RB role when Alexander-Arnold was not available. As per The Mail, the Merseysiders are prepared to let Clyne leave permanently for a fee of £15million.
So, Klopp should look to lure at-least one full-back, who could be deployed on either side of the defense and Sessegnon actually fits the bill. He is mainly a left footed left sided player but Fulham have even utilized him on the right side of their defense and attack.
The youngster started 26 league games for the Cottagers, scored 2 goals and provided 6 assists but could not save the club from relegation.
In my opinion, Sessegnon has the potential to be great but the major obstacle is his price tag. Liverpool lured (BBC) Robertson for just £8million and Alexander-Arnold is the product of their academy. So, it makes no sense for the Reds to splash £40million to lure a backup option.
