Liverpool interested in midfielder with £22million release clause – Face competition

If reports in the media are anything to go by then Liverpool are linked with Hungarian international Dominik Szoboszlai.

The 18-year-old plays for Austrian club RB Salzburg and recently featured against the Reds in the Champions League.

According to Calcio Mercato, Liverpool are interested in the teenage starlet and perhaps observed his performance in the midweek CL contest at Anfield.

The Italian news outlet have stated that the likes of Arsenal, Inter Milan and Serie A champions Juventus are also interested in him.

Playing position, stats and contract:

Szoboszlai broke into Salzburg’s first team in the last campaign and immediately impressed. Now, he is a regular starter.

The youngster is naturally a central midfielder but the Austrian club have also utilized him effectively on the flanks. This season, he has mainly featured in the wide midfield positions (Transfermarkt).

Last season, he started 9 games for the first team (20 appearances), scored 5 goals and provided 6 assists. In the current campaign, so far, he has directly contributed in 6 goals (3 goals and 3 assists) in 11 appearances.

His current contract with Salzburg will expire in 2022 and it has a release clause (Calcio Mercato) of 25 million euros (£22million).

Scenario at Liverpool:

As far as Liverpool’s midfield is concerned, Klopp has got players like Fabinho, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Keita, Wijnaldum, Milner, Henderson and Lallana in his first team.

It must also be remembered that 23-year-old midfielder, Marko Grujic, is on loan with Hertha Berlin and this season, so far, he has netted 2 goals in 7 league appearances.

Therefore, we have got ample quality and depth in the center of the park and another midfielder is not really needed.
