Liverpool Target Sampdoria ‘keeper Sergio Romero

Waiting on news

Liverpool’s search for a top quality striker to replace Luis Suarez may be getting all the headlines, but the Reds remain in the market for an understudy for Simon Mignolet and Sampdoria shot-stopper Sergio Romero is apparently top of their list.

The Argentine, who backstopped his country to a spot in the World Cup finals, spent last season on loan at AS Monaco, but with the French side passing up the opportunity to make the move permanent after he failed to break into the starting eleven, Sampdoria manager Sinisa Mihajlovi? is considering Liverpool’s interest in the ‘keeper with a rumoured bid of £2mil from the Anfield outfit said to be waiting on the table.

The Italian side has apparently been offered Reds defender Sebastian Coates who has been deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield, and though they apparently eager to complete the deal, whether or not the Uruguayan will play any part in Romero’s fate remains to be seen. With both Daniel Agger and Kolo Toure likely to stay on Merseyside, the 23-year old seem the most likely to leave and he could be tempted by the chance to resurrect his career in Italy after conceding that he’s considering his future at Liverpool.

Although they would prefer to sell him outright, Sampdoria may also be tempted by a loan offer if the terms are favourable. Pepe Reina’s move to Bayern Munich late last month may hasten along the deal as Reds boss Brendan Rodgers looks to not only add depth to the squad, but also competition for first-choice ‘keeper Simon Mignolet.
