Itching for a shot on Sunday
After sweating on the fitness of Daniel Sturridge, Liverpool were on the receiving end of some positive news with scans confirming that the strikers hamstring injury isn’t as severe as initially feared.

Although they ended up snagging the three points, the Reds 3-2 win over Manchester City didn’t come without a cost with Jordan Henderson receiving a straight red card for a wild lunge in injury time and Sturridge forced off with a tight hamstring midway through the second half. With the Citizens dropping points in a 2-2 draw with Sunderland yesterday, Brendan Rodgers side remain in prime position to claim their first title of the Premier League era — though the injury to the 24-year old could have come as a major hinderance to the final push.

“Sturridge has undergone further assessment with the club’s medical team at Melwood and a small strain was detected following a scan” an official statement from the club read. “The 24-year-old will now undergo a treatment programme in order to try and be available for the trip to Carrow Road.”

Liverpool will look to further cement their place at the top of the league with a win over struggling Norwich City this weekend, and they could very well rest Sturridge should there be any indication that he could further aggravate the injury. Brendan Rodgers will welcome his old mentor Jose Mourinho to Anfield a week from Sunday when Chelsea visit Merseyside and there’s little sense in risking the 24-year old for a match with the Canaries when a far more important one — one that could very well decide the title — on the horizon.

The former Chelsea man missed the 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season after an ankle injury ruled him out so he’ll be chomping at the bit to face his old side in front of an adoring Kop; to be fair, we’re just as anxious to see him do it…
