More Suarez Transfer Chatter as Father-in-Law Stirs the Pot

More speculation

The transfer talk died down for a little bit as Liverpool striker Luis Suarez was recovering from knee surgery, but since the Uruguayan returned to score a brace as La Celeste effectively ended England’s World Cup dreams, it’s all kicking off again with the 27-year olds father-in-law calling on him to make a move to Spain.

“It is the right time for a change,” Gustavo Balbi told Spanish media outlet La Sexta. “He has nothing left to prove in England. The best solution would be if he were to go to Spain. We would like to have them close to us in Spain but it does not matter which team he signs for. He would do very well over here.” Real Madrid have been known admirers of Suarez’s for some time, but fierce rivals FC Barcelona have also emerged as potential suitors, and that would suit his family just fine.

Balbi, who lives in the Catalan capital, likely wouldn’t complain too loudly should he have the chance to see his daughter and two grandchildren on a regular basis. A bid somewhere in the region of £82mil is reportedly on the cards if Barcelona don’t try to leverage the Reds interest in Alexis Sanchez for a cash plus player deal, but regardless, they’re thought to retain an interest in a player that only last December re-affirmed his commitment to the Anfield outfit with a new 4 1/2 year contract.

Though Liverpool owner John W. Henry will insure that Liverpool drive an extremely hard bargain should the deal pique his interest, he could very well shut the whole thing down — like he did Arsenal’s interest last summer — with one declaration from the top of the Reds food-chain; but, with Suarez not moving to a direct rival, there have been whispers that the American could be more inclined to listen to offers. “This would be the best move for him as he would not go to another team in England out of respect for Liverpool and their supporters” continued Balbi on the strikers potential move to Spain.

It’s going to be a long, interesting summer…
