Brazilian Set for Liverpool Stay, Extremely Happy at Anfield Insists Agent

Despite the January transfer window being a world away, rumours have begun to swirl regarding the future of Liverpool attacker Philippe Coutinho with the Spanish giants Real Madrid and arch-rivals Barcelona apparently both in the hunt for his signature. Despite having a charm offensive launched by one of the world’s best strikers and some flattering words coming out of the Camp Nou, the 23-year old has insisted that he’s only interested in achieving glory with the Anfield outfit — sentiments that have been backed up by his agent.

“Philippe is extremely happy at Liverpool. He signed a new long term contract towards the end of last season that represents his ambition and his feeling for Liverpool,” said Kia Joorabchian when asked about Coutinho’s future at Anfield. “Reports that I have been talking to Real Madrid about Philippe are not true,” he continued, refuting numerous reports to the contrary. ” His aspirations are to qualify for the Champions League with Liverpool this season and to win a trophy. That is all that he is focused on – and nothing else.”

Coutinho, who remains arguably Liverpool’s most important player, has given no indication that he’ll be looking for a move come January or if the Reds fail to qualify for the Champions League this season. Although a move to one of the Spanish giants would be hard to turn down, Joorabchian’s statement echoes one that the Brazilian made just recently when he reaffirmed his commitment to the Anfield outfit after comments from compatriot and Barcelona superstar Neymar Jr. kicked rumours of a move to the Camp Nou into high gear.

“I am totally focused on Liverpool,” explained the 23-year old. “I heard what Neymar said but I want to do well with Liverpool,” continued Coutinho following the 1-1 draw with bitter rivals Everton last Sunday before saying the words that every Kopite wanted to hear. “I am happy here and I hope this season will go well for us.”
