Daniel Sturridge Declares Himself Fit for Manchester City Showdown
It’s taken quite a bit longer than anyone expected, but following a return to full training earlier in the week, Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has declared himself fit and ready to go ahead of Saturday’s meeting with former employers and Premier League pacesetters Manchester City.
“I’m fit and ready to go and it’s going to be a great time for me,” said the 25-year old. “It’s been great under the new manager. I’ve been back training for the past couple of days and I was training when he first arrived,” he continued, talking up life under new boss Jurgen Klopp. “It’s an exciting time to be at the club and I’m enjoying working with him and the style of football. It’s important for us to understand what he wants us to do.”
Injured only days prior to the German’s first match in charge, a build-up of fluid around Sturridge’s knee kept him sidelined far beyond the time the club expected him to be out for — something that everyone associated with the Reds is getting used to. Although it remains to be seen whether or not he’ll be risked from the start, after missing out on the first round of matches under Klopp, the 25-year old wants nothing more than to get back in the thick of things.
“I was on the outside but it was great to see the boys win at Chelsea,” he enthused. “We had a disappointing result last time out against Palace but it’s important to move on. The Premier League is the best league in the world in terms of competitiveness. There are teams up there this season you wouldn’t have expected,” explained Sturridge with the league table throwing up a number of surprises. “It’s up for grabs this season, there isn’t a real favourite. It will come down to who can be the most consistent.”
