Suarez Denies Special Exit Clause

Suarez keeps an eye on the fine print

With all the speculation surrounding the future of Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, there were bound to be some stories popping up about exit clauses and special escape clauses built into his contract, and with the World Cup just around the corner and the transfer window still weeks away from opening officially, there’s no better time to talk about them than now.

Rumours have been circulating since last summer that Spanish giants Real Madrid will be coming in for the Uruguayan striker with a massive bid. After seeing them break the World Transfer record to secure the services of former Tottenham attacker Gareth Bale last summer, it’s quite apparent that Carlo Ancelotti’s side often get what they want. Although the 27-year old has been known to hold a candle for Los Blancos, he’s recently confirmed that there’s no special exit clause in his new contract built-in especially for the Champions League finalists.

“I don’t want to answer that. I try to avoid press speculation” he said at a press event for 888 Poker. “I know what I want and what my agent says is good for me, but I don’t want to comment on speculation.” On the back of a summer of unrest, the striker signed a very lucrative four and half year contract extension with Liverpool, and with the club pushing Manchester City to the very last day for the title and qualifying for the Champions League, the Reds have seemingly ticked all the boxes on Suarez’s wishlist to convince him that his future lies on Merseyside.

Still the rumours persist that a substantial bid from either Real Madrid or Barcelona will be enough to trigger a clause in his contract allowing him to move on — something that, when pressed, he flat out denied. “I didn’t sign any contract with clauses prioritising a certain team” said the striker, who tried to shift the focus away from rumours and to the upcoming World Cup in Brazil. “My focus is on the World Cup now.”

Although Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is reportedly in for a substantial transfer kitty this summer, should he hang on to Suarez over what will obviously be a transfer window filled with speculation, then his best bit of business is already complete.
