Steven Caulker Apparently Holding Out for Liverpool Move

He’s already in red

Although talks are apparently on-going between Liverpool and Southampton for want-away center-half Dejan Lovren, an old target has popped back up on the Reds radar with Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker apparently angling for a move to Anfield.

The 22-year old is well known to Reds boss Brendan Rodgers having spent a season on loan from Tottenham Hotspur at his former club Swansea City as the Welsh outfit successfully navigated their first Premier League campaign. It’s a well known fact that Liverpool will be looking to shore up their defence this summer having shipped an ungodly amount of goals last season, and should the Lovren deal go sideways, Caulker could be a very good — and reasonably priced — alternative.

With the Bluebirds back in the Championship, prising him away from the Bluebirds wouldn’t take much doing and his much publicized £8mil release clause that’s built into his contract will put a stop to any thoughts of a bidding war — with the price already set, it’s just down to him finding the right club and the right offer.

It’s not the first time that the former Spurs man has been linked with Brendan Rodgers side after speculation late in the season made it sound like he was a nailed on certainty to join up with the Premier League runners-up following Cardiff’s relegation to the Championship. Although the rumour mill wound down for a little while there, it’s kicking back into high gear after Caulker apparently spurned the advances of both newly promoted Queen’s Park Rangers and fellow South London club Crystal Palace, to see if a bigger team is going to come in for him.

At this point, he’s got nothing but time…
