Brendan Rodgers Gives Injury Updates Ahead of Spurs Trip

Positives and negatives

After the 3-1 loss to Manchester City on Monday saw Liverpool leave the Etihad Stadium with a number of injury concerns, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has been left with some tough choices to make going into this weekend’s trip to White Hart Lane.

Injuries to Glen Johnson, Martin Skrtel and Alberto Moreno means that their already shaky back line could be in for a little more re-adjusting, but there was more positive news farther up the pitch. “We’ll see closer to the game. Young Moreno twisted his ankle, which was unfortunate, but he has been recovering well this week” said the Northern Irishman when asked about the fitness of his fullbacks. “Glen Johnson is probably the one that it could be difficult for, with a thigh problem. Jose Enrique has been back training for over a week, and looks very strong and fit. But, again, he hasn’t had a lot of game time. We’ll see over the next 48 hours.”

On the back of the negatives, there are some positives though with Rodgers confirming that both Adam Lallana and new signing Mario Balotelli will be in the squad that with face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

“Adam will be in the squad, for sure. He has looked fantastic in training. Of course he is well short of match fitness but in training for the last couple of weeks he has been exceptional” enthused the Reds boss before answering questions about his new striker’s availability. “Mario is fine, he has settled in very well. He has looked fantastic in training and he is a good lad. The focus is very much on his football and he has done very well.”
