Joe Allen Ruled Out for a Few More Weeks

The international break was anything but kind to Liverpool with a number of Reds stars returning from all corners of the globe nursing various knocks.
Emre Can did his ankle in the latter stages of the German u21’s resounding 8-0 win over their Romanian counterparts, fellow midfielder Joe Allen banged up his knee on some horrendous astro-turf as Wales downed Andorra 2-1 in a Euro 2016 qualifying match, and under the most unfortunate circumstances, star striker Daniel Sturridge was ruled out for up to three weeks after picking up a thigh injury while on England duty — a recurring trend that has not only Reds boss Brendan Rodgers fuming, but Kopites around the world as well.
Although the hit-man has since returned to light training ahead of schedule, during Rodgers pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrows meeting with West Ham United, the Northern Irishman revealed that the same lucky twist of fate has not befallen the former Swansea City man. “Daniel Sturridge should, we hope, be back training at some point next week” enthused Rodgers before confirming that it would be some time before Allen rejoined the group at Melwood. Joe Allen is still out and he’ll be out for a few weeks yet.”
The Welshman’s tenacity in the middle of the park and eye for an interception has been missed with Liverpool’s defence continuing to struggle. News that fullback Jon Flanagan will also be out long-term following a knee operation means that Allen will be in good company on the treatment table, but to be fair, they’d rather be spending that quality time putting in work on the pitch.
