Liverpool Get Much Needed Injury Boost Ahead of QPR Meeting

The news of Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge’s latest injury setback came as a bit of a slap in the face for Reds fans everywhere, but it wasn’t all doom and gloom on Merseyside today with a bit of cheer coming out of the pipeline.
“Dejan felt something and didn’t want to aggravate it but he’s fine now,” said Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers when asked about the fitness of his squad. Thankfully, the Croatian defender isn’t the only one who’s back in action. “Joe is back training and looks fantastic. We will see how he goes over the next few days” he said when asked about a return date for Joe Allen, and the Northern Irishman went on to confirm that Emre Can is fit again and that Mamadou Sakho will return to training shortly. “Emre has been training all week and looks good. Sakho will be back in full training on Monday.”
Liverpool have felt the injury pinch from the get go this season with a number of players returning from international duty crocked up. Although they’ve failed to reproduce the kind of blistering form that saw them come so close to snatching their first title of the Premier League era last season, Rodgers remains confident that his side will prioritize and focus on the task at hand as they stare down the barrel of a crowded fixture list.
“Our priority is the Premier League. Our biggest game is Sunday. There will be no thoughts of Real Madrid until after that” explained the Reds manager. “We are going into a demanding period of seven games in 21 days but it’s exciting. The players have been magnificent. The attitude and energy they show gives me the hope we can really push on.”
