Reds Reportedly Readying Big Money Bid for Chelsea Misfit Andre Schurrle

With the January transfer window still over a month away from opening, you’d think the rumour mill would have slowed down just a touch before to swinging into full gear in a few weeks time, but with reports that Liverpool are looking to splash the cash on Chelsea attacker Andre Schurrle in the New Year, there’s no chance of an interruption anytime soon.

With striker Daniel Sturridge sidelined for the past ten weeks — and, in a recent twist, likely into the foreseeable future — the Reds have struggled in front of the net with only 14-goals in eleven Premier League outings thus far this season. Despite spending heavily to bring in the likes of Mario Balotelli, Lazar Markovic and Adam Lallana during their summer spending spree, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers needs some serious help in the goal department and the continually benched Schurrle could be his ticket to reviving the fortunes of the Anfield outfit.

That is, of course, if Chelsea is willing to sell the 24-year old to a rival — we all remember what happened when they let Sturridge sneak out the back door to Merseyside, right? Although there are serious questions as to whether Blues boss Jose Mourinho would be comfortable letting the German international hook-up with his old pal Rodgers, the London club’s willingness to turn a decent profit on Juan Mata, who joined Manchester United in a blockbuster deal last winter, only gives the Northern Irishman hope that the deal will be sanctioned.

Couple that with Chelsea’s reported interest in long-running Reds target Marco Reus and this seemingly tall tale gains a little more traction — though, only slightly of course. After splashing copious amounts of cash over the summer, it remains to be seen if the Liverpool board will give the Reds boss any cash to play with in the winter, let alone the reported £25mil they’re reportedly ready to stump up for the World Cup winner.
