Liverpool – 5 key games to guarantee the title this season

It would be fair to say that 30 years without winning a league title is a statistic that rankles heavily with Liverpool fans.

A select group of just six clubs have won the title during the Premier League era, with Manchester United’s 13 successes a particular source of disappointment for Reds’ fans. 

However, with an eight point lead over their nearest challengers hopes are high that Jurgen Klopp’s side can finally end the drought.

After beating Manchester City 3-1 in their most recent outing, Liverpool are priced at 1.40 in the latest EPL odds market to win the title and it would be a brave move to back against them.

Everton (H) – December 4

Liverpool took four points off Everton last season, although they failed to produce their best form in both meetings.

Jordan Pickford’s stoppage time howler handed the Reds a 1-0 home victory during December 2018, while the teams fought out a goalless draw at Goodison Park later in the season.

Liverpool haven’t been beaten by their local rivals since 2010 and they will fancy their chances of continuing their dominance at the start of December.

Leicester City (A) – December 26

The Reds were fortunate to beat Leicester at Anfield earlier in the season and could have their work cut out to complete the double on the road.

Liverpool face a busy December including participating in the Club World Cup and fatigue could play a part at the King Power Stadium.

With Leicester having title ambitions of their own, this is a potential banana skin for Liverpool’s title challenge.

Manchester United (H) – January 19

United may not be the force they once were under Sir Alex Ferguson, but they still remain a major thorn in Liverpool’s side.

The Red Devils came close to ending Liverpool’s unbeaten record back in October and they’ll be eager to derail their rivals’ title challenge when they next meet.

Liverpool triumphed 3-1 when the two sides last met at Anfield back in December 2018 and a similar scoreline wouldn’t go amiss in this one.

Manchester City (A) – April 4

City were relentless in their pursuit of Liverpool last term and they are unlikely to roll over easily in this season’s title battle.

Injuries to key defenders have hampered City, but with the prospects of reinforcements being signed during January the reigning champions remain a huge threat.

A 2-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium was the turning point in last season’s battle and Liverpool will be eager to avoid the same fate in their next meeting.

Arsenal (A) – May 2

Although the Gunners have been inconsistent during the early part of the campaign, they still possess the ability to cause Liverpool problems.

The Reds haven’t won on their last two visits to the Emirates Stadium and this could be a tricky test as the season reaches its climax.

With Arsenal likely to be pushing for a top four place, this is a game which could have a huge bearing on the destination of the title.
