Lambert Says He’ll Talk More on Monday

Are you ready?

Southampton striker and England forward Rickie Lambert looks set to be Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers first signing of what will surely be a busy transfer window after the 32-year old hit-man successfully completed a medical on Merseyside yesterday.

Lambert flew back to his hometown after he was an unused substitute in the Three Lion’s 3-0 win over Peru yesterday at Wembley Stadium. Although he’s expected to lead the line against Ecuador in England’s next warm-up match ahead of their World Cup opener against Italy on June 14th, stepping out on the pitch for his country may not match up to making a triumphant return to the club he supported as a boy — that is, if the move goes through.

With a fee of £4mil + add-ons agreed between the two clubs, his transfer appears to be nothing but a mere formality, but Lambert isn’t about to leave anything to chance. “The medical went well,” he told Sky Sports News before hopping a plane back to the South coast. “I’ll speak properly about it, hopefully, very shortly.”

The club is expected to announce the deal on Monday and the 32-year old, who had a spell at the Liverpool academy as a teenager, sounds like he’s looking forward to discussing it in earnest with not only the press, but Steven Gerrard. Lambert will spend the summer with the Reds legend as his captain in the national side, and if all goes to plan, that’ll continue right into the Premier League season. “It’s been a crazy football year to be honest, the way it’s carrying on” he said. “I’ve spoken to Stevie a while ago, but I’ll speak properly on Monday.”
