Rodgers Refuses to Confirm Lallana Capture

Adam pots one against an old foe

Although an official announcement has yet to be made, it’s being widely reported that Liverpool will announce the capture of Southampton captain Adam Lallana within the next 24-hours after the highly rated attacking midfielder successfully completed a medical on Merseyside over the weekend, but Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is staying tight lipped on the matter.

“I wouldn’t tell you. I would love to stand here and tell you…we still have signings to make to ensure we have the squad strength to cope” said the Northern Irishman when asked if Lallana would be the next player to trade the South Coast for the North West. “Obviously returning to the Champions League is fantastic for the club and for the supporters but we’re into four competitions next season and we want to do really well and that’s going to take a few more signings to bring in and as soon as we sign them you will know.”

The Anfield outfit have been unabashed in their pursuit of the 26-year old and had hoped to finalize the move before he joined up with Roy Hodgon’s England squad for the World Cup in Brazil. With the initial bid of £20mil rejected by the Saints, Liverpool upped the ante an additional £5mil in an attempt to settle the matter once and for all, but they were pushed back yet again after a transfer freeze was put in place following the departure of then manager Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham Hotspur.

Now that the business embargo has been lifted following the appointment of former Feynoord boss Ronald Koeman to the St. Mary’s hot-seat, it looks like the deal can finally move forward, with Reds fans everywhere looking forward to seeing Lallana lean on all sorts of things in the coming days.
