Dejan Lovren Ain’t About the Money

Not about the money

Dejan Lovren’s big money move from Southampton to Liverpool may have come under acrimonious circumstances for the Croatian defender, but he’s ready to put it all behind him and focus on achieving big things for the Reds.

Although the 25-year old was being linked earlier in the summer with sides that might be considered quite a bit more fashionable than the Anfield outfit, the 25-year old has said that his head was never turned by the money on the table. “I had better offers financially but from the first day I said I want to come to Liverpool,” he said ahead of the Reds Premier League opener with former club Southampton. “I want to achieve something here because I know this club is big and Brendan Rodgers is a great manager. “There is a lot of talent here – amazing players – and last season they showed they can do something. I’m really confident in this team.”

Following the retirement of Jamie Carragher, the Anfield outfit sorely lacked the organizing voice at the back that made them such defensive stalwarts. In only one match in the famous red shirt, the 25-year old showed exactly why Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers brought him into the fold with not only a goal to break his scoring duck, but an assured, composed performance to boot. Doing it in a friendly is one thing, but can he do it on a Saturday afternoon against the Saints?

“To play them in the first game was destiny,” conceded the 25-year old. “I will just have to concentrate on my game, on our style and I won’t think about Southampton. “Maybe there is some regret with how I left Southampton. I said that I wanted to leave because Liverpool is a massive club and maybe I will have this chance just one time in my life. “It was not so easy at the beginning. It took a lot of time. But at the end everybody agreed and I shook their hands and said goodbye so now it is finished.”
