Well that didn’t take long, did it? Liverpool loanee Joao Carlos Teixeira got his loan spell at Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion off to a flying start by opening his scoring in his debut for the Seagulls as Reds legend Sammi Hyypia claimed a 2-0 win over Leeds United.
“Of course I am grateful to Liverpool for letting Joao come to us and get the games he needs, but it works both ways” the big Finn told the press in his post match interview. “They can benefit too because his time with us can hopefully be a stepping stone towards Liverpool’s first team.”
After seeing relatively no first team action at Anfield last year, the Portuguese attacking midfielder was loaned out to the Seagulls with the understanding that he’d see some first team action. Early in the first half, the 21-year old showed excellent movement and composure when he latched onto Bruno’s through-ball to slot home from a tight angle.
“He is a young player and Liverpool have a very big squad. A player of his age needs to play games to improve” explained Hyypia before heaping praise on the youngster with his trademark smile. “We have a quality player and I am very happy to have him with us.”
