In the 3-1 loss to Manchester City, it was a different débutante that really caught the eye of a number of Liverpool supporters, but as the Reds bounced back to down Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 Sunday, it was another player that was handed his debut in the same match that impressed both the travelling Kop and the millions watching on television — fullback Alberto Moreno.

The Sevilla transplant put in a Man of the Match performance with not only a solid defensive display, but he also added a solo goal worthy of the highlight reel to cap off only his second match in the famous red shirt. If the 22-year old was looking to carve his name in boss Brendan Rodgers starting eleven, Sunday’s performance will have the Northern Irishman heading to the shed for his chisel.

“You saw today, when the ball went to Andros Townsend – who is quick as well – he pressed him tight, nicked the ball and then he was away” said Brendan Rodgers while explaining that he asked Moreno to get tighter to the player he was marking after the Manchester City game. “The speed that he showed was phenomenal because Townsend is a quick player, but he has got away and it was a great finish. That’s what I asked of the full-backs, you’ve got to defend first and foremost and then join the attack.”
