There’s really no better way to get your career with the Liverpool first team started than to score at Anfield on your debut — now, take a bow Jordan Rossiter.

The 17-year old, a product of the Reds academy, has been tipped as the next big thing on Merseyside this season and his composed performances for the Liverpool youth team have not only drawn comparison’s to Steven Gerrard, but also earned him the nod from Reds boss Brendan Rodgers for the League Cup match with Middlesbrough.

Early in the first half, on-loan Chelsea ‘keeper Jamal Blackman did well to keep out Rickie Lambert’s well worked shot, but the clearance from the Teesiders wasn’t good enough and the big Englishman certainly wasn’t ready for the follow-up as Rossiter did exactly what needed to be done — put the ball on net. On a slick Anfield surface, the youngster threaded a low effort through the stranded shot-stoppers legs from 30-yards out to bag his first senior team goal and send his side into the break with the lead.
