Staying or Going? AC Milan CEO Rethinks Fernando Torres Claim

Thanks for the support Adriano

While it’s always been more of the low brow media outlets that have continually linked former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres with a dramatic return to Anfield in every single transfer window since the Spaniard left for Chelsea, the latest incarnation of the ever present rumour is starting to pick up more steam than usual.

As per usual there’s not much to suggest that Merseyside would be his destination should he leave the continent, but after Blues boss Jose Mourinho said that the striker, who is struggling to adapt to life in Serie A after being shipped off on a two year loan to AC Milan, would not be returning to Stamford Bridge in January, speculation has been rife that Torres time in Italy is almost up.

According to Rossoneri CEO Adriano Galliani, that’s not the case — or is it? To be fair, he seems to be a bit confused. “He certainly stays” was the response when asked by Italian media outlet Mediaset Premium if the club would ship out the struggling Spaniard and bring in a replacement this winter. “Someone will only arrive if someone else has to leave.”

While that sounded blunt enough to ward off any further inquisition, speaking to Sky Italia ahead of yesterday’s win over Napoli, Galliani sounded a little less than certain that Torres would be at the San Siro for the long haul. “Will he leave in January? I don’t think so, but the market is unpredictable,” he explained without any real conviction. “We need to have patience. The lad was unlucky and needs to settle into our football. He’s very important and he’ll certainly return to being player he once was.”
