Brendan Rodgers Rules Out Selling Lucas This Winter

You’re not going anywhere

Lucas has always been one of those players that has split popular opinion right down the middle, but love him or hate him, it looks like the Brazilian is going to stay at Liverpool for at least the foreseeable future.

Although he’s played somewhat of a peripheral role since Reds boss Brendan Rodgers took over at Anfield, the midfield destroyer has been enjoying a good run in the side as of late with the teams performances looking all the better for it. Italian sides Inter Milan and Napoli have both been heavily linked with making a move for the 28-year old this month, but the Liverpool manager has made his position pretty clear on the rumours — though he refused to rule out him being allowed to leave this summer.

“No, he is not one that we would want to lose in January,” said the Northern Irishman when asked about Lucas in the buildup to tomorrow’s meeting with Aston Villa in the Premier League. “There will be speculation over the course of the month on a lot of players. It is not something I would be willing to do in January. Of course at the end of the season everything is looked at again but the team is in a good momentum.”

Despite starting the season slow, the Reds are now unbeaten in their last five league outings, picking up three wins and two draws in the process. While much has been made of their shift in formation and tactical adjustments, the Brazilian’s return to the side has coincided with their up-tick in form — something that has drawn praise from the boss. “We have had nothing from them (Inter)” confirmed Rodgers before going on to give Lucas a pat on the back. “I think he’s just enjoying playing and he’s playing very well.”
