The name of Paris St. Germain fullback Lucas Digne has been thrown around in Liverpool circles with increasing regularity since the 22-year made his desire to leave the Parc des Princes public with the Reds rumoured to be in advanced talks to bring the highly rated French youngster to Anfield.
Rumoured, of course, remains the operative word in that sentence with the silly season in full swing. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been a busy man since the transfer window opened, bringing in a handful of big-money players in Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino and Nathaniel Clyne while also making a number of shrewd moves in the market with Manchester City utility man James Milner arriving on a free in what has to be the pick of the litter. While all signs are pointing to Digne becoming the eighth player to arrive on Merseyside this summer, his agent Mikkel Beck isn’t about to let the media control the narrative by refuting that talks are even under-way, yet alone close to being completed.
“That’s not right. They have not given me permission to talk to Liverpool,” said the former Nottingham Forest man. “I can not comment on the clubs’ names, but there is interest from several large systems. We have to see if something will come eventually, but that is what is being worked on,” he continued before once again affirming his client’s unhappiness in the French capital and keeping talks of a move very much alive. “Lucas is not 100 percent satisfied with the situation in Paris.”
With the future of Spanish fullback Alberto Moreno once again coming in to question with Champions League winners Barcelona reportedly interested in the defender, a move for Digne can’t be ruled out even if the 23-year old ends up staying at Anfield after all. What’s certain is that the Reds won’t be the only ones chasing the Frenchman and they’ll do well to convince him to move to a side without top-class European football on offer — then again, we said the same thing about Firmino and look how that turned out…
