Stewart Signs New Liverpool Deal, Lucas Taking FC Augsburg Seriously
With two massive matches just over the horizon, you wouldn’t fault promising Liverpool midfielder Kevin Stewart for being disappointed to miss out on the action after he injured his ankle in training following the Reds 6-0 thrashing of Aston Villa, but the ahead of hosting FC Augsburg at Anfield and travelling to the Capital for the League Cup final, the blow has been softened somewhat with the 22-year old putting pen to paper on a new long-term contract.
“It gives me more confidence, it shows [the club] believes in me and believe that I could go on to become a good player for them,” he told the club’s official site. “It has just given me confidence in myself and the security [I have] time to prove myself and get better with good coaches and good players.”
With a cup final just over the horizon, it’s easy to loose your concentration, but after a scoreless draw in Germany, Liverpool will have it all to do when Augsburg visit L4 on Thursday — something that Stewart’s fellow midfielder in Lucas knows all too well.
“That is how football life is – every three or four days you have a very big game. Of course, on Sunday it is a big final, but this is another final for us on Thursday,” explained the Brazilian. “For myself, if I’ve got a chance to play it’ll be another chance to show we want to be in the team for the final. This is an opportunity for us,” continued the veteran ball-winner. “But it’s an also an opportunity to go to the next round in a tournament we want to go as far as possible in. It’s a European tournament and they should always be taken really seriously.”
The headline should have read: “FC Augsburg Not Taking Lucas Seriously”. Given Lucas’ qualities, or rather the lack of it, it is perfectly understandable.
