Klopp Has “Good News” on Injured Liverpool Trio

With their Premier League campaign drawing to a close and the European Championships just over the horizon, Liverpool are set to welcome club captain Jordan Henderson as well as attacking duo Divock Origi and Danny Ings back into their ranks ahead of the Europa League final with Sevilla next week – though Reds boss Jurgen Klopp remains hesitant to say if any of them will be ready for the trip to Basel.

“With Hendo, it is really good news,” said the German boss, speaking to the press ahead of the meeting with Chelsea later today. “With the injury he had, we had to rest him for a long time so we could not really do a lot because we tried everything to avoid the surgery. That’s how it was and we even met the possible surgeon and he said ‘no, it’s good – it’s not necessary’,” confirmed Klopp, sounding relieved. “Yesterday, he was on the pitch and he trained, not with the team but with Jordan [Milsom] and the rehab department. It looked good. It was only passing and running but everything was OK and so now we have to [go] step by step by step.”

Much like the skipper, Belgian striker Divock Origi is back on the pitch, but he’s yet to return to full training with the team – which casts significant doubt on whether or not he’ll be in contention for a spot in the squad that squares up with Sevilla a week from today. Danny Ings, who has been out with a knee injury since the fall, is back in full training and could make a cameo appearance before the end of the season, but the Englishman is not included in the Reds Europa League squad.

“He is already training, not with the team, but like Hendo. He’s on the pitch, he’s running, he’s passing and all this,” said Klopp when asked about Origi. “He’s [back] quicker than we thought, like it was with Emre, a really good job from all the therapists and the coaches. But we cannot force it, we take what we get,” continued the Liverpool boss, before switching his focus to Ings. “What can I say? Danny is healthy. He cannot be [match] fit in a champion way, not 100 per cent fit of course, but he’s in a really good way,” enthused the charismatic German. “We will see what happens. For tomorrow, absolutely not. Maybe, maybe [he can be in the] squad, if it makes sense – I’m not too sure.”
