Piotr Zielinski’s Agent Rules Out Napoli Move as Anfield Switch Inches Forward
Although it’s still not set in stone quite yet, Liverpool’s move for Udinese winger Piotr Zielinski looks to have cleared another substantial hurdle with the agent of the Polish attacker ruling out a move to Serie A side Napoli amid rumours that the Italian club would look to rivals the Reds for his signature.
Considering the 22-year old has talked up a move to the Merseyside giants and his conversations with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp over the past six months, that news really isn’t all that surprising. Over the weekend Partenopei president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed that they are interested in signing up the talented forward, but that the player himself wasn’t interested in making the move to Naples and that Merseyside was his preferred destination — a fact his agent backed up in a conversation with Italian media outlet Tuttomercatoweb.
“To be honest, there is no chance the player will move to Napoli,” was Bartlomiej Bolek’s ever so blunt response when asked by the tabloid if there was any chance Zielinski could be convinced to snub Anfield for the Stadio San Paolo this summer.
With top scorer Gonzalo Higuain rumoured to be angling for a move away from Napoli, missing out on the Polish wide-man could be a big problem for the Italian side, though there’s nothing official quite yet. Liverpool, for their part have kept their transfer dealing quiet this summer and this particular bit of business is no exception. Despite reportedly lodging a bid of £9.5mil over the weekend, there has been little talk of any actual progress on the transfer with the tricky winger currently on international duty with Poland at the European Championships in France. He may prefer a move to the Premier League, but there’s still a whole lot of time for someone to foul things up.
