If reports in the media are anything to go by then Liverpool are looking to sign Swiss international Denis Zakaria.

According to Sky Germany, the 22-year-old is in great demand with several top European clubs interested in hiring his services and one of them is Liverpool, who have been monitoring the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder for quite some time.

News – Klopp has groundwork done for Liverpool to sign £344,000-a-week star – Report

The renowned news outlet have mentioned that the likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Arsenal are looking to lure the former Young Byys player. Borussia Dortmund even offered 30 million euros for Zakaria in the summer but the move was rejected (Sky Germany).

Two weeks back, Bild covered a report and claimed that the likes of Inter Milan and Tottenham have already expressed interest in the Bundesliga midfielder.

Playing position, stats, contract and price tag:

Denis Zakaria is mainly a defensive midfielder but he has also played in the creative central midfield role. Moreover, Borussia Monchengladbach have also utilized him in the central defense when needed.

In the last campaign, he scored 4 goals in 31 league appearances. As far as this season is concerned, the youngster has so far scored 2 goals for the German club, who are currently on top of the league after 9 fixtures, a point ahead of reigning champions Bayern Munich.

The Swiss international made his debut for his country three years back and so far, he has been capped 24 times and netted 3 goals. He is highly regarded in the national team (Bild):

Switzerland captain Xhaka: “His development is outstanding. Having Denis in the team next to me makes me feel better! But he has to stay tuned – now comes a very crucial phase for him.”

Swiss and Monchengladbach goalie Yann Sommer: “Unbelievable, what makes him progress! He’s so important to our team.”

The midfielder’s current contract with the Bundesliga leaders will expire in 2022 and as per Sky Germany, it would probably take a fee of around 50 million euros (£43million) to secure his signature.

Scenario at Anfield:

Liverpool splashed the cash to sign Brazilian defensive midfielder, Fabinho, in the summer transfer window of last year.

The Samba star was highly impressive in the last campaign and was a key member of the squad that won the Champions League. Currently, he is arguably the best holding midfielder in the Premier League. Not only is he good at breaking plays but his passing range is brilliant as well.

The Reds also have skipper Henderson, who is capable of playing in the DM role. On the other hand, we have an overcrowded midfield department with players like Wijnaldum, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Keita and Lallana around.

Have your say – Do Liverpool need Zakaria? Should Klopp splash £43million to sign him?
