Lucas Replaces Victor Moses for West Brom Clash

Live updates from the official site
Brendan Rodgers has made one change from the side that ran out a 2-2 draw on Tyneside last weekend and there’s little surprise that it’s Brazilian midfielder Lucas returning to the starting eleven.

After missing the last two matches — one through suspension and the other for personal reasons as his wife gave birth to their second child — the dominate midfielder receives an immediate callback with Victor Moses the player making way. Simon Mignolet of course starts between the sticks and Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho and Martin Skrtel continue to keep Reds vice-captain Daniel Agger out of the side. Glen Johnson and Aly Cissokho retain the wingback positions after making their respect returns from injury last weekend. With Rodgers seemingly staying the course with the 3-5-2 formation, the real question is who’s the new Number 10?

There were shouts for either Luis Alberto or Joe Allen to be given a shot in the starting eleven, but our guess is that Jordan Henderson will be tasked with linking midfield to attack while Steven Gerrard saddles up alongside Lucas in a more withdrawn, deep role. The Skipper’s role has been vital over the last few weeks despite some criticism leveled his way, but we’re sure both Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge appreciate his range of passing and ability to pick either of them out with a perfect long ball.

From the bench, Liverpool have Brad Jones, Raheem Sterling, Daniel Agger, Martin Kelly, Victor Moses, Joe Allen and Luis Alberto to call on if needed. West Brom have kept Luke Daniels, Shane Long, Chris Brunt, James Morrison, Diego Lugano, Matej Vydra and Saido Berahino in reserve.

Boaz Myhill will be charged with backstopping Steve Clarke’s side while Billy Jones, Gareth McAuley, Jonas Olsson and Liam Ridgewell will be looking to keep the Reds attack at bay. Claudio Yacob, Youssouf Mulumbu, Morgan Amalfitano, Nicolas Anelka, and Stephane Sessegnon make up the midfield while Victor Anichebe starts up top for West Brom. Expect goals at both ends…
