VIDEO: Suarez Opens the Scoring at St. Mary’s

It’s been eleven years since we’ve taken full points at St. Mary’s but a goal from Luis Suarez has the Reds well placed to go on and snatch it as they go into the break with the momentum.

The high line Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino employed to great effect against Arsenal looks a bit suspect against Liverpool’s highly mobile forward line, and with Philippe Coutinho tucked in behind Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, it comes as a bit of a risk from the Argentine.

We saw those two get in behind on more than one occasion, but it was a bit of a lucky bounce that saw Suarez score on his 100th Premier League appearance — and come out of his mini-slump — when an attempted one-two pass from the Uruguayan took a ricochet after finding Sturridge and the Golden Boot heir apparent lashed past Saint’s ‘keeper Artur Boruc.

Southampton certainly had their chances with a couple England colleagues causing problems for Liverpool’s backline with Adam Lallana hitting the post after Rickie Lambert chested the ball into this path and Rodriguez saw his low shot saved by the strong right-hand of Simon Mignolet.

Be sure to stop by later in the day for all the action, reaction, knee-jerkism and just plain old jerkism as we wrap this one up.
